1909. Miguel, a young teacher, is assigned to a tiny mountain village on the border between Spain and Portugal. An inhospitable territory, inhabited by rough people and traditions as remote as the village itself. As the winter progresses, Miguel feels how the darkness takes over everything around him while his curiosity grows for a neighbor of the village, the enigmatic Dorinda.
